Luckner, Nicolas, count

   marshal of France
   Born in Cham, Bavaria, Nicolas, count Luckner, became a lieutenant general in the French armies in 1763, marshal of France during the revolution of 1789, and then commander of the Army of the Rhine, replacing Marshal jean-baptiste rocham-beau in 1792. Suspected of treason and suspended, he was arrested at Metz (1793), condemned to death by the Revolutionary Tribunal, and executed.
